Product Description

Get you a copper kettle,
get you a copper coil
Fill it with new made corn mash and never more you'll toil
You'll just lay there by the juniper while the moon is bright
Watch them jugs a-filling in the pale moonlight.

Build you a fire with hickory, hickory, ash and oak
Don't use no green or rotten wood, they'll get you by the smoke
You'll just lay there by the juniper while the moon is bright
Watch them jugs a-filling in the pale moonlight.

("Copper Kettle", Albert Beddoe)

Not actually the scent of gin itself--we figure you can dab some of that on your neck if you want. This is the scent of trudging out to feed the still with arms full of wood and soft mud under your feet, while the juniper does its thing in the pale moonlight.

and yes, that's Dr. Zomg and her Capable Assistant bootleggin' it up. :)

  1. The Great Gatsby 4 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Sep 2014

I got the Squee Sampler, and since this one got onto my fingertips when I opened it, it was the first I tried. The first thing I got was the smoke; not so much wood fire as rich cigar smoke, eddying about a cellar room that needed a password to get in, youse know? Then came the juniper, woods and damp earth, probably from the floor of said cellar, the bar and the bottles behind it, with a touch of sweetness. On me, it wasn't so much the production of the hooch as the atmosphere of where it ended up, a 20s speakeasy where backroom deals were made by men in fedoras accompanied by marcelled flappers. Cue the clarinets!

  2. Jumping Juniper! 4 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Feb 2014

It's funny, when I first put this on, It reminded me of nothing so much as these evergreen bushes I used to play in when I was little. My friends and I would break the leaves open for the smell and use the berries in our mudpies. I looked it up & it turns out those were Juniper. So they nailed the scent!

After it has been on for a while, I can smell a bit of the wood and earth undertones. It's different from my usual scent, but I like it.

  3. Almost... 2 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Feb 2014

I really, really wanted to like this one. In the bottle, it's just what I wanted - a pine forest in summertime. Once it hits my skin though, it goes all soapy and never recovers.
Try it though! Other reviewers seem to have had better luck.

  4. Scent of the Ozarks 4 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Jul 2013

On me, this scent had a pretty equal balance of pine and juniper. At first it was a little strong for my liking. The scent was really sharp for a while, but it wasn't unpleasant. After a while the edge went away and was more subdued, leaving a lovely sweet earthy scent. The fragrance reminds me of the woods in the Ozark mountains, which is what I was hoping for. I give it for stars because it was a little to strong for me at first, but it was lovely once the "bite" wore off. Overall I would recommend it as a sweet and earthy unisex scent.

  5. Absolutely Lovely... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Feb 2013

This was the star of my first set of squees (and then become the first bottle I ordered). It's woodsy, but not in the way I usually expect perfumes to be woodsy; it's not cedar or mahogany, but sort of sweetly pine-ish with this sharp clear note of juniper that reminds me of moonlight or the juniper bushes around my childhood home. I'm just in love with it.

My one regret is that it doesn't last longer. I get a good two or three hours of glorious woodiness out of it, but then it fades to a generic powder scent. Must be my skin though--one day it rubbed off on my scarf, which smelt of moonlit woods for days.

Note: I think this is very much an unisex scent. It doesn't smell girly or masculine to me--just a very clean, clear, straightforward scent.

  6. Lovely but Short-Lived 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Dec 2012

I really loved this scent in the bottle. The trees were prominent and foresty. But on my skin, it practically disappeared, leaving a faint, herbal mint scent. Hours later, it morphed into a sweet, almost fruity smell that was barely discernible.

I guess it just didn't work with my skin chemistry, which is a shame. But I still give it 5 stars because in the bottle, it was exactly as described, a midnight walk in the woods. Maybe I'll use it in a diffuser or some other method that doesn't involve me touching it. It was just lovely.
