This recipe was liberated from a pleasant modern lemon-lime soda that's lost track of its antique soothing roots. The original soothing roots were not roots as such, pardon the pun--they were a low dose of lithium citrate, which increases serotonin in the body and decreases the amount of the stress hormone norepinephrine. Not that its specific effects were understood at the time of the original concoction, but a happy accident is a happy accident, no?
Our own concoction is de-lithiated, just like the real thing is now. But the ingredients chosen to complement lithium's tang are still there. Lime peel, fine Meyer lemon, sweet fennel root and two vanillas.

I ordered the doctor's kit, and of them all, this one is far and away my favorite! I don't find it soapy or sweet at all, to me it's tart and sharp and a bit spicy, it makes me feel awake and bright. The best thing it has going for it is that my husband (who has very different taste in scents than I do) also loves it, it's the rare perfume that makes us both happy! He bought me a full size bottle for Christmas.
Even my 3 year old likes to wear this one, she says it smells like "morning sunshine is up".

I was expecting this one to be sweet when I ordered it, but it's really not a sweet scent at all. The fennel has a nice black licorice bite when first applied, sharpened up a bit by the lemon especially. The licorice fades over a couple of hours, but the citruses never really become prevalent, and it does get pretty soapy once the fennel is faded. I end up in lime soap territory, and I didn't get vanilla at all.
Overall, it's a nice, fresh scent if you are not opposed to licorice-type scents, but I wish the citrus was a bit stronger.

In the bottle: citrus, mostly. Very light, to the point of effervescence. Can't smell the vanilla at all.
Wet on skin: turns a little soapy and a little... floral? Still very light, still no vanilla. I have bad luck getting vanilla to make an appearance on my skin.
Dry: It's nice, light... the citrus clings like a half remembered dream. Definitely still soapy on me, though; too much so for wearing. I'll have to pass this one along. Shame, that.
