Bitters: another health drink that wasn't. Unlike most patent medicines, they weren't primarily used to get schnockered on--at least not directly. The standard approach to tip some of the mysterious, pungent potion into your straight bootleg hooch and thereby treat (or pre-treat) the hangover you had every intention of earning. Add a little sugar to the mix, some ice, and you've got the venerable Old Fashioned. Add a squish of citrus juice to that, and depending on your base spirit you've got about half a million different things, most of which are very slightly better for you than chugging straight out of the jar of white lightning.
Bitters come (or came) in tons of varieties, dominated by anise or citrus or mint or gentian or...pretty much anything, depending on the whim of the compounder. Cherry is definitely Dr. Zomg's favorite, even if it has yet to cure a hangover or anything other than a boring glass of liquor. She makes hers with sweet cherry fruit, bitter cherry pits, grapefruit rind, galangal root, geranium leaf, grains of paradise, and brandy.

I ordered the doctor's kit, and this was the one I was most expecting to love. Sadly, I ended up passing it on to a friend as it was too dark and bitter for me to enjoy wearing.

...complete with summertime smells.
In the bottle, Cherry Kool-Aid and pie cherries of all things. Knowing the fun these ladies mixed up, I wasn't too worried. On me, it stayed Kool-Aid and pies, but only until it dried, then it turned into this lovely dark smoky cherry brandy with a pair of fresh maraschino cherries stuck in, and a grapefruit slice curled on the glass, making me wish very much for a glass. After a few minutes, the bright notes of grapefruit peek out and make it very fun. An hour later, I got a hint of Sakura blossoms along with lingering brandy notes, so rich and expressive.
On my son, this is more mature, with a very dark cherry liquor swirled with a splash of brandy for class.
I have yet to be disappointed in a Dr. ZOMG's cure-all...they are so much fun. Even his teachers want to get to know Dr. ZOMG.
Life is beautiful.

The cherry itself isn't that strong, but the different components together all add up to "rich black cherry" to my nose, with a spicy funkiness at the bottom to round it out, and a little grapefruit spike at the top to keep it clean. Though it's definitely cherry, it doesn't come off as super juicy and fruity. Instead, it's more of a sharp, rich scent.
I prefer this one to Sugar Dragon for a cherry scent, because sometimes Sugar Dragon's cherry just screams "CHERRY FLAVOURING" at me, and this one never does. (Though on other days, I find Sugar Dragon delicious.... I don't know if it's my mood or my skin doing it!)

As other Dr. Zomg scents remind me of certain sodas, this too reminds me of a certain soda variant that a doctor might order. ;)
This packs a nice, tart punch that, for me at least, has an effect on my taste buds as well. I happened to be munching on some dark chocolate raspberry candy before I put this on, and afterwards, the candy tasted considerably sweeter. Very interesting indeed.
