Colonial marine hydroids ahoy! Four of our favorite musks combine with ambergris and dainty clove bud to make a deliciously subtle, pettable fragrance. This one had us sniffing it again and again to catch the sweet hint of clove in all that creamy, musky softness; if you can pet something by inhaling, we petted this with our noses.

The fuzz of our little terrestrial gastropod mollusc friends, it turns out, is a little sticky, soft and sort-of-sweet and powdery, with the tiniest hint of distant aquatic origins and a bite of clove that surprised me, a bit like the surprise you get when watching a Powelliphanta suddenly slurp up an earthworm with the speed of a vacuum cleaner.
I keep coming back to my wrists, sniffing to see what this scent is going to do next. It's not romance-y or foodie or soothing...but yet, that ambiguity works, somehow.

Unlike most other reviews on this perfume, the main scent that I get from this, on my skin, is overwhelmingly floral.
I smell exactly like the small Devon floral cachous I used to love buying in the chemists' when I was little. Like rose & violet breath freshening sweets. There might be some clove in there for freshening the breath, but it doesn't smell spicy at on me, just flowery & sweetly powdery. It also fades quite quickly.
I prefer more foody, spicy scents, so this isn't one for me. Unlike heatherbat, I think this definitely smells like little old ladies!

Cloves on first application. Over time, soft cloves. Nothing but cloves, actually.
Please take my review with a grain of salt, because I actually don't know what ambergris smells like, so I'm probably just smelling ambergris, and I just happen to not like it.
The positive note I find is that it's not a super-powerful scent, but it doesn't fade away so quickly as some other scents.

i ordered a squee of this and was pretty excited about getting it. i opened it up and sniffed and it immediately nailed me in the deepest part of my brain as something very good and comforting and tinged with homesickness. i put it on my wrists without hesitation, and realised upon several very deep sniffs that...this smells exactly like my grandmother, who died 13 years ago. i got confirmation from my mother, who was a little unnerved by how much it smells like her. i mean this in the best way possible! NOTHING about this smells like old lady - my nana certainly didn't smell like old lady. both in the bottle and on my wrists i can barely smell the clove, which is odd to me because clove usually warms up and goes musky and spicy and wonderful on me. "creamy, musky softness" is so accurate, i am indeed petting this with my nose. however, it's creamy and musky and soft WITHOUT being any kind of thick or heavy. it's delightful to me, as i'm usually a heavy musk kind of person. it's light without being dainty, it's solid and present without being heavy, it's creamy without being thick. the other reviewer who compared it to silk is spot-on. this is more feminine than i usually prefer my scents, but it's a lovely surprise.

An absolutely sublime experience for those who love clove, which acts as a unifying centerpiece for the elegant medley of musk.
In the bottle, it struck me very modestly, with a teasing whisper of musk and the barest shadow of peppery clove hidden behind aquatic fronds.
Upon application to my skin, the clove unfurls boldly, delectably spiced and sweet, with the musk as the darkened backdrop in contrast to the center-staged spice. However, it soon mellows out as it begins to dry, the clove receding back within the waves of musk like a donned dress but still noticeably the protagonist. The ambergris element adds a very quiet aspect of brine that's nearly unnoticeable, lost in the blending of aromas. Silken and subdued, it is an absolute lady, but honestly could be worn comfortably by any gender.
It ages well, though with definite subtlety. Whenever I wear it, I find myself following the example of our dearest Holly and Ariel, constantly holding my wrists and elbows to my nose in order to draw deeply of this delightful fragrance.
