Product Description

(reformulated 11/10/10)
This scent is Holly's love song to her favorite particle accelerator, but it is also a scent of DOOM!

A strangelet is a still-hypothetical subatomic particle composed of three different kinds of quarks: down, up, and strange, in roughly equal quantities. Normally a few femtometers across, under the right conditions they could reach macroscopic sizes and this--this is the kicker--theoretically achieve greater particle stability than normal atomic nuclei.

Naturally the vast majority of the scientific community is dubious regarding the likelihood of this, but we're ignoring that and going with the fun option. The short version is that if the LHC manages to cough up a big enough strangelet, everything turns into more strangelets! And life as we know it ceases to exist. :)

This is the scent of that strange new world: an odd, bracing cocktail of ambergris, pale green lettuce, mint stalks, and a big splash of polyvalent fizz.

  1. Startling. 3 Star Review

I'll admit, I got this one based on the title of it. Right out of the bottle it strikes me overwhelmingly of cleaning agents from my days as a phlebotomy student. This would be very reassuring in a place where sterility is expected. Unfortunately, I seem to have a mild phobia that's almost the inverse of germ-phobia; I really don't like harsh cleansers on me. Body-cleansing products are fine, but if I get, say, Windex on my hands, I'll be rather uncomfortably aware of it until I wash it off.

BUT! I gave this the benefit of the doubt and tried it on my wrist for a day (See, I normally use scents in a diffuser locket). Now it seems to have mellowed down to...toothpaste? Ozone? Makes me wonder what a bit of anise would do to it.

  2. The smell of a clean room lab in the morning. 3 Star Review

The initial impression is - floor cleaner? A strong, chemical-y smell that is both sweet and powerful.
After a while, the almost offensive initial sharpness simmers down to a cool, minty, hygienic aroma.

Maybe a bit strong for my tastes, but indubitably a reliable choice for a hot day. Very minty. Very cool.

  3. Instant attraction 5 Star Review

Someone gave me a sample of this, and today I finally put it on. The whiff of scent has been tantalizing me all day! I think I need to buy more. Very bracing and astringent, herbal and clean. A bit strange, in the best possible science way. It will wake you up!

  4. Awesome Science! 5 Star Review

This is the other of my favorite scents (the first is That Dream Where You're Naked At School). They're both pretty different but I like them a lot!

But I digress. This scent is extremely science-y! It is minty, not sweet, but a very clean, sterile sort of mint. This may sound weird, but it has an air of chlorine to it. Not like the choking scent of a public pool, but sort of like... chlorine as a disinfectant, nestled in with the mint. Overall, it smells like working in white lab coats, making SCIENCE happen. It makes me feel productive and clean and awesome!

  5. The strange new world is very clean! 5 Star Review

Starts out with slightly sweet mint, dry, a bit metallic, and definitely science-y. On the drydown, it picks up strong powdery overtones as well. (For the mint-haters out there, the mint is only noticeable on first application.) It's a particularly light scent, very clean and almost sterile. The closest thing I can think of that it smells like is getting a shower in a nice hotel, with marble and frosted glass everywhere. This is the scent of the shower steam from the fancy soap that comes with that room. It's not a typical perfume-y scent, but it makes me feel extra clean and fresh when wearing it!
